New York, NY-- The following is a statement from GMHC CEO Kelsey Louie in response to today’s legal brief from the U.S. Justice Department arguing the Civil Rights Act does not protect LGBT Americans from discrimination:

“The news that the Department of Justice, an institution designed to protect all Americans, would deny LGBT citizens protection from employment discrimination based on sexual orientation is another deliberate act by the Trump Administration to deny our community of our inalienable rights. This sustained assault on LGBT Americans and all groups vulnerable to discrimination should alarm every American. Under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, everyone deserves equal protection in the workplace regardless of who they are and who they love. GMHC and our allies will continue to fight for protection against discrimination in all forms, and ensure that all feel safe and protected in their place of employment.”
